How Humidity Changes Skincare Experience

Absorption time is the first thing to change
In high humidity, moisturizers and sunscreens that would otherwise absorb cleanly tend to sit on the skin longer, which is where most "chipchipa" and greasy-finish complaints concentrate. The same formula in a drier climate is far less likely to draw that complaint.
Sebum production compounds the effect
Humidity increases oil production for most skin types, which stacks on top of a product's own finish. A lightweight product paired with high natural oil output can still read as heavy to the customer — even though neither the product nor the customer's skin type is "wrong" on its own.
Sweat changes how sunscreen is judged
Sunscreen reapplication and sweat resistance become disproportionately important in humid climates, and complaints about stinging eyes or a product "sliding off" cluster heavily in reviews from customers in more humid regions, independent of the product's actual SPF performance.
City-level patterns are real, and rarely tracked
Customers in visibly more humid cities report meaningfully different satisfaction with the same product's *finish* — even when they report similar satisfaction with its *results*. Most review systems only ask for a single overall rating, which means this split gets averaged away instead of surfaced.
What this means for product feedback
A brand selling the same SKU nationally is, in effect, running that product through several different climate tests at once. Reading reviews with climate context — even something as simple as "does this complaint cluster by season or city" — surfaces a pattern that a single national average rating hides completely.
